Some Observations on a National Day of Prayer

By Philip D. Ropp

Today, a major portion of the financial district of our greatest city lies in ruin.  As the nation struggles to come to grips with what has happened, regional rivalries and political differences have melted into a sea of compassion, concern, and an outpouring of outright affection for our countrymen in New York and those that struggle so valiantly to save the few survivors.  As millions stand in line to give blood, and the nation's attention focuses on the horrors of war so suddenly and violently thrust upon us, the cry goes up for God to comfort and to help us.  Amidst a waving sea of flags we see the proud and confident sing "God Bless America,"  oblivious to the truth that God no longer blesses America, for America is no longer worthy of  His grace. If it is not clear yet that our chastisement as a nation is at hand, it will be soon enough in the trying days that lie ahead.

The United States of America has become a nation of sin and sinners.  In this "one nation under God"  unborn children are butchered by the millions and their pathetic body parts sold on the meat market of medical research.  Our cities are cesspools of crime, corruption, murder, drugs and sex.  Every mass medium promotes an agenda of  violence, debauchery, conspicuous consumption, and "do-it-yourself" values, and we have the audacity to marvel when children murder teachers and other children in our schools, where it is illegal to pray to God even as a snot-nosed satanist holds a 12 gauge in your face.  Atheists, who are merely satanists too stupid to know for whom it is they labor, have banded together across the land to demand that the words "In God We Trust" be removed from every public building on which they appear, and with hardly a whimper from the supposed "Christian majority" every mention of God and Jesus Christ in our public life has been, or is being, methodically erased. Christians in America have cowered in their churches, not wishing to offend the sensitivities of the sinners and the godless, as the most precious symbols of our faith have been trampled in public under the manure covered boots of ignorance and evil.  God did not save Israel from Assyria nor Judah from Babylon, and neither will He save an apostate America merely because those that have turned their backs on Him are suddenly afraid and crying out for help. The Reverend Billy Graham, the symbol of church going Protestant America for two generations was asked "Why does God allow these things to happen?"  Mr. Graham responded, "I don't know."  Well, I'll tell you why.  Because God will not be mocked.  We cannot allow sin to overrun our land and run the country while we do nothing and expect God to continue to bless America.  The question to pose is why has God not let judgment fall upon America before now?

Our president, who so far has been most successful as the butt of jokes, must rise to a challenge unique to history.  Do nothing and terror will rain  from the skies and blood run in police-state streets, yet a false move in any action he takes has the potential of escalating into the horror of World War III.  The nation's economy, already weakened by excessive debt and teetering on the brink of recession, now lies gut-shot in the streets of Lower Manhattan and must somehow struggle to its feet and wage a war of unknown scope and duration, supplying a military that has been ravaged by eight years of abuse and neglect.  Adding to the tension is the fact that it is the red dragon of China that supplies and supports our mid eastern enemies, unleashing these radical Moslems as their own "imperialist running dogs," and hiding in the shadows to wait for their opportunity to finish off a weakened and bloodied America and install the hell of Marxist socialism.

And so on this National Day of Prayer there is indeed much to pray for, but it comes down to these essentials:  Spiritual strength and wisdom for our president and leaders, that they might do what is right; repentance and revival for our nation, that we might once again know what is right.  If we want God to bless America again, then America must again become chaste and worthy of blessing.  Should this not be accomplished, the destruction of the United States will be swift and sure, and the future will be a very cold and ugly place in which to die.
